Many of our members and visitors may have questions about TxPFHA, what we do, and why they might become members.  We will post general questions of this nature on this page.

However, should you have a question, please feel free to contact us or post your question on our eGroup.  If we see the same question being asked more than once, we'll probably post it and the answer on this page for others to see...

TxPFHA Questions & Answers

  • Why do we need another Paso group in Texas?

While Texas has been represented by the Southwestern Paso Fino Horse Association (SWPFHA), a region of the PFHA, for many years, there have at times been problems with communications about pleasure events and activities.  Currently there are almost 500 past and current members of the PFHA in Texas, who probably own a combined total of over 1,000 Pasos.  We feel that most of these owners probably purchased their Pasos for pleasure, and therefore we feel there is ample reason to have an organization that is specifically designed to cater to their interests.

  • Is TxPFHA affiliated with the PFHA?

No, TxPFHA is not affiliated with the Paso Fino Horse Association.  We obviously support the PFHA, and encourage our members to join and support this organization!  While our members do not have to belong to this organization, there may be issues related to our breed that can only be resolved or voiced by being a member of this international organization of Paso owners.

  • Is TxPFHA affiliated with SWPFHA?

No.  However, we also support the SWPFHA, and encourage our members to join and support this organization!  The SWPFHA sponsors many worthwhile activities, and we feel it is important to promote our breed in every way possible.  But again, we feel that the TxPFHA can be more supportive of the pleasure Paso owners in Texas, because it is focused on Texas and focused on pleasure activities for our horses.

  • What types of activities does TxPFHA sponsor?

If it's fun and it involves Pasos, then we're in support of it!  In particular, we want to help sponsor, promote, and inform all Texas Paso owners about activities such as Trail Rides, Clinics, Parades, Fun Shows, Shows, and social events in our local areas.  Our goal is to encourage more involvement in these events by all Paso owners, and to provide opportunities for all Texas Paso owners to get to meet each other and have fun!

  • Why would I become a member of TxPFHA?

By becoming a member of TxPFHA, your membership fees will help us sponsor events, generate and distribute our newsletter and Web site, acquire insurance to cover sponsored events, and undertake other worthwhile projects our membership wants to be involved in or promote.  Also, your membership allows you to have a voice in the future directions of our organization, and allows you to help direct our members towards new pleasure activities we haven't even thought of.

  • How do I become a member?

If  you wish to become a member of TxPFHA, please print the Membership Application, fill it out, and send it to the address on the form with your check.

  • Why does TxPFHA allow Areas to be split off?

We feel the best way to encourage pleasure events, and pleasure activities, is to empower the local Paso owners to plan and hold these events themselves.  In order to foster this initiative, we allow these local groups to form their own areas within TxPFHA.  After all, Texas is a big state and events in the Dallas may not get many participants from Houston, etc.  Therefore, we feel it is important to allow our state to be subdivided into as many regions as our membership deem appropriate.

  • How can new TxPFHA Areas be formed?

You can form a new TxPFHA Regional Area by getting 15 members of TxPFHA in your area to sign a petition for separation that indicates the area your new region will cover, the officers in your new area, and your proposed budget for the new area.  This petition for separation and the associated information should be presented to the TxPFHA Board at a regularly scheduled Board Meeting.  The Board will then present this petition to the affected membership for a vote.  For example, if your new area is in conflict with an existing area only this area's and your new area's members will be asked to vote.  A simple majority is all that will be required to accept your petition for separation and to form your new TxPFHA Area.
