Nov-Dec 2002

Its so hard to get back to work. The Holidays have been busy but its time to get on with the news.  Im still looking for a new editor for 2003. Please contact Kitty Harvey (kittyharvey@juno.com) if youd like to exercise your creative impulses, even if it is just for a few issues.

CHRISTMAS PARADES
Pasos on Parade strutted their stuff like pros again and had a great Christmas Parade in Willis.  Keep an eye on their website at www.pasosonparade.com for pictures & descriptions. And watch for them to appear in the Conroe Go Texan parade as well as the downtown Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo parades in February. Practices are going on now.

RODEO BOOTH NEWS
TxPFHA is now looking for advertisers for the Farm Directory which will be distributed at the Houston Livestock Show in 2003, and then will be sent to all members of TxPFHA and SWPFHA. The Farm Directory will list breeders, trainers, instructors, feed & tack suppliers, services providers, just about anything you can name that is related to horses. Prices are extremely reasonable. This directory will have a lot of exposure, so be sure to get your business or service listed.

Also, there will be single page advertisements and a bulletin board at the booth itself. If you have a horse for sale, why not make sure it is seen by over 1 million people at the show.  Contact Elaine Mohr (281-413-2298), Kitty Harvey (713-862-2423), or Suzanne Seal (936-344-0725) for advertising prices.

The farm directory will only be given out free at the Houston Livestock show and to current 2003 members of either TxPFHA or SWPFHA, so dont forget to renew with your club promptly.

PASO FINOS AT A DRESSAGE SHOW
Gail Keller & Kitty Harvey rode a Pas de Deux (or, as they call it, Paso Deux) in an Anything Goes Freestyle in Houston Texas at the Region 9 Dressage Championships, October 19th, 2002. And they were a hit!! They performed all the typical dressage movements of half-voltes, serpentines, and 10 meter figure eights, but all in perfect symmetry with each other. And they rode well enough to win 1st place.

They wore 18th century outfits to give a hint of traditional dressage, but that was the only traditional thing about their performance. They rode to the music of Sly & the Family Stones Dance to the Music, Hot Fun in the Summertime, and Everyday People. A normally reserved dressage crowd was transformed into a clapping, whistling, & cheering mass of fun loving folks. The next day the two were getting compliments from trainers and competitors on their precision.

Gail & Kitty have been longtime members of the Houston Dressage Society and have been riding dressage for many years. Gail, a breeder of Paso Finos, introduced Kitty to Pasos about 5 years ago. The 2 best friends decided they needed an outlet where they could combine their knowledge of dressage with their gaited mounts. So they have worked with local and national dressage instructors to translate the dressage fundamentals in gait.

They have one very important man to thank Sam Batchelor. Sam is an FEI rider & instructor who was head rider for the Royal Lippizans for 5 years before establishing his own training barn. Sam is the creative genius behind many of their movements. He taught them rhythm, precision, and artistry. And they are eternally grateful.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Happy Holidays!  I want to wish each of you a joyous and prosperous 2003.

As we pack up the tree, put up the decorations and get back to work and our real world, heres hoping that your real world 2003 is a wonderful world, full of time to ride and enjoy our wonderful Pasos.

Were looking forward to our after Christmas party again this year.  We end the year with some money in the bank, insurance in place and members busy and enjoying their horses.  It just doesnt get any better.  Check out the website for information on whats going on and thanks to everyone who has worked hard and helped make this another good year.

On a personal note, Teenangel was busy again at Christmas and we were able to provide gifts to over 80 teenagers who otherwise would have been left out.  We had a lot of change in our lives, but everything has settled down now and it feels good.  Its funny how things work out in spite of our trying to make it difficult.  Theres probably a lesson there, but its probably one Ill never learn.  Ill try to make it a New Years resolution.

Have a happy and safe New Year and glorious year ahead.

Peace and love,

Gail
