TxPFHA CINCO DE MAYO PARADE We
had the best, most experienced parade folks show up for a great
presentation. Selena was on the disabled list for that one but her
daughter Brittany was suited & ready to go. Huey & Jean Jackson
looked spectacular as usual on their matching palominos. Terri
Williamson & her daughter Gina were gorgeous on their parade novice
pasos. Suzanne Seal helped Gail Keller & Kitty Harvey round out the
group to a perfect set of 8 horses. The
crowd really liked seeing our Spanish rooted horses. We heard a lot of
shouts of PASO FINO from the crowds & when we actually had
room to go, they went wild over the Paso Fino Feet. I cant thank all
those riders enough at showing Houston what the best Hispanic horse
breed is all about. KEN & JO SANDERS TRAIL RIDE MAY 11TH Ken
and Jo Sanders hosted a trail ride at their beautiful home at the
Commons of Lake Houston on Saturday, May 11th.
Everyone was invited, and those who attended seemed to really
enjoy themselves! We
started out with a fast and slow group, but ended up with about four
groups, on the way to the Commons Park where we had lunch.
Everyone brought their favorite food, and as usual we had more
than enough good food and good company for lunch! Two
groups headed back to the Sanders place after lunch, but both ended
up back at the ranch about the same time, because of the heat and being
tired. Everyone who stayed,
and it seemed like most of us, ended up by the Sanders pool to cool
off and talk about the ride and other Paso news. If
youve never been on one of the Sanders rides, youve really
missed something, and I would encourage you to try to make their next
one! Many thanks to Ken and
Jo for their hospitality and all the work they put in to make this a fun
time for everyone! (Editors
note: Thanks, too, to Donna Beddingfield for checking everyone in on
this ride.) JUNE 1ST FUN SHOW What
a great show we had! And it was really FUN! (as in FUN &
FELLOWSHIP - the TxPFHA motto). The day started with a few of the
more serious classes like Pleasure Class, Performance Class, Model
Class, Western Pleasure Class. Once those were over the show really got
going. Champagne race and Egg & Spoon race were my favorites! I
have to thank some really wonderful volunteers who helped me at the
show. Alfred Green did a wonderful job as the judges assistant, ring
steward, and gate keeper. And this man did it all without previous
experience. Thats what a makes a volunteer great he stepped up to
the plate and did what had to be done. Valda DeWitt was just a blessing
for organizing the class lists and handing out ribbons & prizes to
all the participants. Karen Noll was our fast & efficient sign up
person; she doesnt own a paso fino but she was glad to help out
because she knows that without volunteers shows cant be held. Last
but not least, thanks go to Nancy Flick & Jesse Rivera for getting
IXL primed to go. Oh, yes, and a very tasty thanks goes to the workers
of the concession stand (I think Jo Sanders was the manager) who grilled
the most delicious burgers Ive had in a long time. (I really liked
the deviled eggs, too, Jo.) KEEP YOUR EYES ON THEMThe
Texcelentes will be competing at the TETRA Convention June 22nd
in Belton, Texas. Go out and cheer for the best Paso Fino Drill Team
ever! Theyve been practicing their tails off so you can bet theyll
be great. Go see em. FUTURE PLANS? Marla
told me about Play Days where people pay one price and enter as
many classes as they want. Ive only been to fun shows, open shows
& schooling shows, so I asked my western friends about them. Play
Days have about 5 events, as opposed to our show which had 28 classes. I
think that is a great idea & I hope that someone who had been to one
of these events (Marla?) would organize one for us. For
the future, Im looking into organizing a Parelli Clinic/Workshop.
Ive seen Greg Sokoloski demonstrate some Parelli based training
techniques which he uses on the Houston Mounted Patrol horses and these
can be used for a large range of things, including hard to handle
horses. And its simple. Im
also getting together a beginners sidesaddle clinic. Ever wanted to feel
what its like to ride sidesaddle? There are clinicians who can teach
you in a fun & safe manner. I havent confirmed any dates, yet,
but I am aiming for late fall of 2002. Do
you have any ideas for clinics? Is there a particular person or training
method you would like to see? How about a lesson in hoof care or other
health matters? Are there any events you would like to have? Contact me
& I can help you get started in organizing anything you want. The
advantage to having TxPFHA behind you is that we have a pool of members
to help out, we can supply up front money if necessary, and we can
supply liability insurance if needed for TxPFHA events. This is your
club make it what you want it to be. ROGUES GALLERYDo
you have a picture of you & your paso fino doing something unusual?
Id like to start a section called the Rogues Gallery where we can see
what our members are doing. To submit a picture, it will have to be in
either .jpg or .bmp format. If you would like to send me a photo, I can
scan it but you will have to include a stamped self-addressed return
envelope so I can get the picture back to you. YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF
TXPFHA FOR ME TO INCLUDE YOUR PHOTO. ONLY 2 PHOTOS MAY BE SUBMITTED
WITHIN A 12 MONTH PERIOD. If you include an article with your picture,
the 2 photos per year limit may be waved. Please do not use this section
for advertising. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTHere
we are reading our second email newsletter.
What a wonderful way for our club to stay connected.
And those of you who arent receiving this via the net,
heres your update on all were doing, too. Weve
been busy again. Cinco de
Mayo parade was warm, but well received.
And weve now had our first FUN show another success.
Without the help of our volunteers, we wouldnt be a club.
The strength of any club is in its volunteer base.
Regardless of the area of interest, without or volunteers we just
wouldnt be. Volunteers
put on our trail ride at the Ken and Jo Sanders.
Special thanks to Joanne Terry & Donna Beddingfield for their
coordination and hard work and thanks to those who helped.
Volunteers put on our first FUN show and a very special thanks to
Kitty Harvey for all her hard work and coordination.
I would have much preferred to have been at IXL rather than
coordinating our office move that day.
Thanks to all who helped make the show a success.
We even had a volunteer who isnt a member, but just came out
and helped all morning with sign-up.
Without a doubt, very special thanks to Nancy Flick for donating
her lovely facility for our show. Arent
our TXPFHA folks wonderful? If
you have an event you would like to see happen a clinic, another
show, a trail ride, whatever just let us know and take the plunge to
get it planned and executed. I
have a t-shirt from a show where we volunteered for several days and it
says, Volunteer. Its
worth my time. It is. Were always grateful to those who step forward and
appreciate all their hard work. Our
active volunteers are what make our club special, and my hats off to
you. As you read about some
of the ideas for future activities, there may be an opportunity for you
to volunteer or help coordinate. Thanks
to everyone. Try to stay
cool as summer is upon us. Have
great riding. Peace and love, Gail AdvertisingWeve had an
inquiry about advertising in the newsletter. Many thanks to Ann Howell
for asking, so that we can defray our printing/mailing costs (for those
who cant read my emails) & keep the information highway going.
The rates are $12 for a full page ad, $7 for a half page ad. Applications for
membership to TxPFHA can be found on our website www.txpfha.org.
Resorte
IV x La Lopez Charlie
is a beautiful mahogany bay Stallion imported from Columbia S.A. in
1984. He was shown in 1985, 1986,1987,& 1992. During
Charlies show career his strongest competitors were his brothers from
Resorte IV, all of which received top placements, Charlie only being
defeated by Capuchino and Castellano in the Fla. Shows. Shown in
NATIONALS in 1986, competition was so great in the CLASSIC FINO
STALLIONS, placings were TOP TEN FINO STALLIONS! CHARLIE WAS PLACED WITH
TOP TEN NATL FINO CHAMPIONS FOR 1986! Charlie, later, defeated the current Natl Ch. Fino Stallion at 1992 Spectrum. Then retired to RIVERVIEW FARMS in Virginias Shenandoah Valley, pasturing with his favorite band of broodmares and siring many accomplished foals!
