EQUUS USA COMES TO HOUSTON

John Lyons Equus USA is coming to Houston next February 9-12. This is pegged to be even better than Equitana (thats because its going to be held here in Houston). And the best part about it is the Paso Fino Village will be there, too!

This huge event will be held in the Reliant Arena, the same building where the Houston Rodeo Cutting Horse events are held. There will be hundreds of exhibitors there along with demonstrations going on all 4 days. Anything having to do with horses will be seen there. There will be equipment for sale, arts & crafts, and all kinds of horse associations. I believe there will also be entertainment each evening. Kentucky may have had Equitana, but they havent seen the kind of reception that we horse lovin Texans will be giving this event.

And best of all, our beloved Paso Finos will be getting lots of attention! As I mentioned, PFHA will be bringing the Paso Fino Village. Im so excited at finally getting to see what Ive heard is a gorgeous display! And in our own home town (or at least within a few hours drive)! It takes a lot of man-power to keep a booth running for 4 days, so please give a helping hand if someone calls on you to help out PFHA. Were all in this together to promote the Paso Fino as one of the smoothest riding horses in the world.

NEWSLETTER EDITOR FOR 2003

We are in need of a newsletter editor for 2003. There are no qualifications for the job & writing the newsletter is just like talking to a bunch of friends! All you have to do is tell them all the good news youve heard, and if something sad happens, well, you want your friends to know about that, too. Board members are more than willing to keep you informed of what is going on. Here are the guidelines presently in use:

1)     The newsletter cannot be used for personal gain.

2)     All information printed in the newsletter shall not in any way defame a person, group, or business. No information about TxPFHA, SWPFHA, or PFHA, or any of their affiliates, may be printed in a negative manner. The goal of TxPFHA is to remain on friendly terms with all Paso Fino associations, along with other horse associations.

3)     All information presented in the newsletter is intended to inform, not criticize.

4)     Articles authored by someone other than the editor will be identified with the article.

5)     Editor has the right to edit any articles as he/she sees fit.

6)     The editor may reprint articles from other sources provided the authors consent has been given.

7)     No information may be accepted for printing unless the source of the information has been identified to the editor.

8)     No false or misleading information may be printed. All information given must be presented as accurately as possible, to the best of the editors knowledge.

9)     The newsletter cannot be used to make a personal political statement.

10) The newsletter must be published at least every 2 months. Printed copies shall be mailed to all registered members during the middle and end of the calendar year.

11) Editor need not be a board member to hold the position, but must be responsible to the board.

All we are asking for is 6 issues for the year, more only if you feel comfortable. If you need help with distributing the newsletter, I would be more than happy to offer my help in doing that. Please contact Kitty Harvey at 713-862-2423 (email kitty.harvey@grantprideco.com) if you would like to exercise your creative writing talents for 2003.

RODEO BOOTH NEWS

The first meeting of the rodeo booth committee was held September 29. Members in attendance were Terri Williamson, Laurie McGrath, Toni Vann, Elaine Mohr, Kitty Harvey, Gail Keller, Mickey Beddingfield, & Donna Beddingfield. Other members who have volunteered to help on the booth are Selena Foster, Darla Gips, Ken Sanders, and Suzanne Seal.

The committee is divided into 3 sections and is as follows:

Booth construction, decoration, & setup Laurie McGrath is chairperson, and those who will be working on this part of the booth are Mickey Beddingfield, Ken Sanders, and Keith Vann.

Booth staffing and scheduling Mickey Beddingfield is currently chairperson. This section will probably not have a lot of activity until about 2 months before the rodeo.

Funding and Farm directory Kitty Harvey & Elaine Mohr are co-chairs and Suzanne Seal will also be working in this area.

Scheduled meetings for each of these groups will be sent to the membership and interested members are highly encouraged to participate.

All those present at the meeting agreed that the new booth should have a Western/Spanish theme. The construction will be out of barn wood, and there will be a stucco effect on the front of the bar.  The booth will be built in sections that are easy to stack, store, and assemble, and will go together with bolts & wing nuts. The booth will accommodate the backdrop that Nancy Flick has agreed to donate. There will be a TV with a VCR in it for showing videos that we select.  Anyone having videos is asked to send them to Mickey Beddingfield for copying.  Also, we may want to include a CD player for videos that are on this media. There will be louvered boxes in the front of the booth for the literature we want to hand out to visitors. There will be a tack board for Tx & SW members to display photos of any horses they may have for sale. Laurie will workup a plan for the booth & we will pass it by the membership for suggestions, before beginning construction.

Kitty and Elaine will work up the costs/charges for the Farm Directory and advertising. The Farm Directory will be geared towards booth visitors at the HLSR, and will primarily include a list of the breeders, trainers, service providers, etc., and space for advertising.  It may also include items like a brief write-up on the history of Pasos, a schedule of events, etc., but will not include items specific to Tx, such as a list of members. An updated directory may be worked up later that would include this information, and sent to our current members. We will include any and all Paso folks in the Farm Directory in Texas and anywhere in the US. The list of Paso services will be keyed to the individual entry in the list, and the list will be divided by area of Texas (north, south, west, etc.) or by state (LA, FL, etc.).

MESSAGE
FROM THE PRESIDENT

Isnt it amazing how in our area when the temperature drops 5 degrees and the days are only 92 degrees that we think were having a cool snap and thoughts turn to riding.  So, fall is in the air and I hope everyone is enjoying our cooler weather and having happy riding.

I was privileged to sit in on the rodeo booth committee meeting this past weekend.  It was great to see a dozen people planning, discussing, working, cooperating, laughing and having fun together on the rodeo booth project.  Thats the essence of our club.  Enjoying our horses and the company of each other.  Working together for our common goal to enjoy and promote our great breed.  Thanks to everyone who is presently working and to those who will be working in the future on our rodeo booth.   Anyone who has any suggestions or ideas, or anyone who would like to help put this together, please contact one of the booth committee members.  February is going to be great fun!

Peace and love,

Gail
